PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide mold powder for continuous casting suitable for casting Ti and Al steel, and a method for continuously casting slabs free of surface defects. SOLUTION: Molten steel containing Ti: 0.08-3.0 wt.%, Al: 0.02-0.8 wt.% is continuously cast using the powder for continuous casting which contains CaO: 25-40 wt.%, SiO2 : 25-40 wt.%, Na2 O: 10-20 wt.%, Al2 O3 : <=10 wt.%, F: 5-10 wt.%, C: 1-5 wt.%, and exhibits basicity: 0.7<CaO/SiO2 <1.8, viscosity at 1300 deg.C: 1-4 poise, solidification temperature: 900-1300 deg.C and has a property that one side of the mold powder contacting with a mold is crystalized when the mold powder is poured between the mold and a solidified shell.
