PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can inhibit the overheat of an electric motor 7 without providing a protective element regardless of the value of power supply voltage, and secure the dust removing performance. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner includes a rotary brush 6 for scraping the dust, the electric motor 7 for driving the rotary brush 6, a voltage detecting means 12 for detecting the power supply voltage, and a setting means 13 for setting the phase control amount of the electric motor 7, and has a compensation means 14 for compensating the phase control amount of the electric motor 7 on the basis of the detected results of the voltage detecting means 12 and the set value of the setting means 13, which prevents the overheat of the electric motor due to a rise in power supply voltage and a drop in dust removing performance due to a drop in power supply voltage without providing the protective element regardless of the value of the power supply voltage.
