Potato lifter with a first screening belt (5), and a second screening belt (7), which connects to the first screening belt, at least one steep part (11) of which second screening belt is directed upwards at an angle alpha greater than 20 DEG in such a way that a shorter machine and more efficient cleaning can be obtained. A coarse-meshed haulm-removing belt (13) is guided around the second screening belt (7) closely against the steep part (11) of said belt. According to the invention, uncontrolled rolling back of the potatoes on the second screening belt (7) is prevented by this haulm-removing belt (13), without high carrier plates or carrier fingers being fitted on it, with the result that the risk of damage to the potatoes at the transition between the first and the second screening belts is reduced. To this end, the steep part (11) of the second screening belt forms an angle alpha which is less than 40 DEG , and the haulm-removing belt (13) is a barred belt with transverse bars (15) on which no projections are provided, or on which projections are provided that project less than 4 cm from the surface of the transverse bars are provided, the height of the haulm-removing belt being less than 8 cm.

|
