<p>In an image enhancing apparatus (10) that includes a filter (16), the filter (16) enhances the sharpness of an original image (50) in accordance with a sharpening parameter ( lambda ). A sharpening parameter selection system (11) is coupled to the filter (16). The sharpening parameter selection system (16) determines the sharpening parameter ( lambda ) for the filter (16) such that the frequency distribution of a sharpened image (90) of the original image (50) by the filter (16) is similar to that of a low resolution image (60) of the original image (50).
