PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filtering device having a high filtration efficiency, wherein the ability can be maintained for a long period of time, the energy for backward washing is reduced, and further, works for loading and changing a filter material are facilitated. SOLUTION: A filter layer 11 is constituted in such a way that the loading layer of the filter material A is gradually reduced in voids in the direction of water-flow by using an elastic material as the filter material A and thereby the filter material is deformed by gravity or by the dynamic pressure of water containing suspended matter flowing in the loading layer of the filter material.
