PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interlocking mechanism for brakes capable of individually braking a pair of right and left wheels provided on a wheelchair and concurrently braking the right and left wheels as needed by an operation of either one of right and left levers. SOLUTION: The brakes for the wheelchair are provided with a braking mechanism in each of right and left wheels, and they are operated by brake wires tensionally provided between the braking mechanisms and the right and left brake levers attached to a wheelchair side. A clutch member is fixed to each wire, and operation shafts are provided for engaging and disengaging the clutch members. The most principal characteristic of the interlocking mechanism is that it is composed so that it can be suitably switched between a state of singly operating each wire and a state of operating both right and left wires by the operation of either one of the brake levers.
