PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating sterilizing organic gas excellent in energy efficiency and capable of preventing the deactivation of a catalyst due to thermal deterioration. SOLUTION: The sterilizing organic gas discharged from a sterilizing tank 5 is diluted with oxygen-containing gas and the diluted gas is supplied to a catalyst tank 1 and thermally oxidized and decomposed to be converted into harmless gas. In this method, diluted gas is heated by the heat exchange between the harmless gas self-heated by the heat generated by oxidative decomposition and the diluted gas in a heat exchanger 2. When there is possibility such that the temperature of the catalyst tank 1 exceeds the heat-resistant temperature of a catalyst, the whole or a part of the diluted gas is not subjected to heat exchange or the diluted gas or harmless gas is discharged on the way of the heat exchange. |
