PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the load on internal organs by surely preventing rapid transmission of air into a body cavity. SOLUTION: From the leading end of an insert part 3 of an endoscope 2, an object for observation is illuminated, its reflected light is received and its brightness is detected by a solid imaging element 81, and an aperture part 26b is controlled according to the brightness such that the amount of air for automatic transmission can be controlled by controlling the amount of illumination light, determining the opening level of the aperture part through the detector 26d for aperture opening and varying the amount of air transmission to the object for observation corresponding to the aperture opening.
