The use of an active agent combination of at least one polyol (I) and at least one 2,2-dialkylacetic acid (II) in antimicrobial cosmetic or dermatological compositions (A) is new. The use of an active agent combination of at least one polyol (I) and at least one dialkyl-substituted acetic acid of formula R1-CHR2-COOH (II) is claimed in the production of antimicrobial cosmetic or dermatological compositions (A). R1 = optionally branched 1-12C alkyl; R2 = optionally branched 1-24C alkyl.
