15 The invention relates to a height-adjusting element, in particular for wood, metal and building constructions and the like, with a plane-parallel plastic, wood or metal plate displaying, formed on one aide, a wedge-shaped end section in which is arranged an insertion slot separating the end section and the plate into limbs, said insertion slot having on its lower, inner edge elastic, protruding retaining members, which are arranged lying opposite each other and jutting out perpendicularly in the insertion slot. The limbs of the wedge-shaped end section limiting the insertion slot displa y on the inside an outwardly open chamfer (9) as an insertion aid. Provided on the top and under side (10, 27) are respectively formed guiding and locking means which in each cas e consist, in position and shape, of guiding pairs appropriate to one another, such as ten on (12, 34) and guiding groove (15, 29) and/or row of locking teeth (22, 31) and guiding groove (17, 37) In the limbs (5, 6) and in the plane-parallel plate (2) there are recess es (23, 35) with stabilizing webs (24, 25, 39).
