PURPOSE: To solve a problem wherein an excellent harmonic image cannot obtained because of the mixing of a tail of a basic component of the preceding reception data into a basic component of the latest reception data. CONSTITUTION: In operation of a harmonic mode by a phase inversion method, first ultrasonic pulses are successively transmitted to a plurality of focuses on the same sound ray, and second ultrasonic pulses each having an antiphase to the first ultrasonic pulse are successively transmitted to the plurality of focuses on the same sound ray. Thereby, because the tail of the basic component of the reception data to the ultrasonic pulse transmitted just before the mixing into the basic component of the reception data to the first ultrasonic pulse, and the tail of the basic component of the reception data to the ultrasonic pulse transmitted just before the mixing into the basic component of the reception data to the second ultrasonic pulse become equal and are counteracted by addition to obtain the excellent harmonic image.
