PURPOSE: Provided is a method of preparing 17β-(N-t-butylcarbamoyl)-3-one steroid compounds which are intermediates of finasteride, treating male alopecia and positive prostatomegaly. The preparation is carried out in a milder condition and makes a high yield and purity product. CONSTITUTION: The method of preparation comprises: reacting pivaloyl halogen compound with 17β-carboxy-3-one steroid to make anhydrous steroid compound; and reacting the anhydrous compound, without separation, with t-butylamine. to make the products, 17β-(N-t-butylcarbamoyl)-3-one steroid compounds represented by formula(1), wherein X is CH2, CH, NH or N; a dotted line is single or double bond.
