PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that sufficiently and uniformly electrifies the surface of a photoreceptor even in the case of a long electrophotographic photoreceptor and obtains sufficiently satisfactory image quality without deteriorating the surface of the photoreceptor even in long term use. SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus having an electrophotographic photoreceptor, contact electrifying members, an exposure device, a developing device, and a transfer device, the contact electrifying members 2a to 2c are ranged perpendicular to the direction in which the surface of the electrophotographic photoreceptor 1 moves, in such a manner that the ends of the electrifying areas of the adjacent contact electrifying members overlap. Additionally, an AC current that is applied to each contact electrifying member is set to 1.3 mA or below.
