PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sample alignment tool for a grain image reader, with which grains as a sample can be placed simply and quickly on a sample base in an aligned state, and to obtain a sample alignment method using the sample alignment tool. SOLUTION: The sample alignment tool 100 is constituted of a sample- alignment-tool frame 102, in which first through-holes 112 are formed and a moving body 104 in which second through-holes 116 are formed. First, in a state that the holes 112 are deviated from the holes 116, the grains 28 are thrown into the frame 102, and excessive grains 28 are discharged from a discharge port 110. Then, in this state, the tool 100 is set on the sample base, the moving body 104 is moved, and the holes 112 are made to communicate with the holes 116. Thereby, the grains 28 having entered the holes 116 fall into the holes 116, to be mounted on the sample base in the aligned state.
