PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for making paper having excellent optical characteristics and strength characteristics, by which the retention of titanium dioxide on the paper in the paper making is remarkably improved. SOLUTION: This method for producing the paper is characterized by using a paper material obtained by adding carboxymethylcellulose having a substitution degree of 0.3 to 0.6 to a cellulose fiber slurry and further adding aluminum sulfate and titanium dioxide.
