PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system capable of providing a user interface according to user's use environment, and rapidly and certainly retrieving catalog information necessary for the user. SOLUTION: In this system, a server device 11 can access a retrieval DB 16 and a catalog DB inside a business DB 12, and is connected to a user-side client device 15 through a LAN or the like. The client device 15 can provide a GUI corresponding to the WWW according to the user's use environment or the purpose of the book retrieval by the user. The server device 11 extracts the catalog information registered in the catalog DB, converts the extracted catalog information into a data format suitable for the retrieval, and registers the converted catalog information into the retrieval DB 16. The catalog information registered in the retrieval DB 16 is retrieved by the retrieval or the like by a partial coincidence with a character string inputted as a retrieval condition from the GUI of the client device 15, and the retrieved catalog information is exhibited to the client device 15.
