PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a feedback control of the air-fuel ratio using a sliding mode control from being oscillatory even when a feedback gain is increased regarding a plant having a waste time as an object to be controlled. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an air-fuel ratio detecting means (16) detecting an air-fuel ratio of an exhaust, a waste time compensating means (35) compensating a waste time for the air-fuel ratio determined by fuel supply to be detected by the air-fuel ratio detecting means by adding a disturbance compensator to Smith method and an air-fuel ratio feedback control means (22) executing the feedback control of the air-fuel ratio by increasing or decreasing a fuel supply quantity using the sliding mode control so that the air-fuel ratio with the waste time compensated by the waste time compensating means is coincided with a targeted air-fuel ratio.
