PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode catalyst body with low price, high catalytic activity, and preventing decrease in cell performance, and to provide a method simply manufacturing the electrode catalyst body. SOLUTION: This electrode catalyst body for a fuel cell contains catalyst particles containing platinum and a metal baser than platinum, and a conductive carrier carrying the catalyst particles, and the number of atoms of the metal baser than platinum constituting a metal oxide without forming an alloy with platinum is less than 5% of that of platinum. The manufacturing method of the electrode catalyst body contains a process for carrying platinum and the metal baser than the platinum in the conductive carrier; an alloying process for alloying platinum and the metal baser than platinum by heat treatment to form catalyst particles; and a metal oxide removing process for removing a metal oxide on the surface of the catalyst particle. |
