PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specifically suppress harmful obligate anaerobes in the oral cavity, or the like, such as main causal bacteria of periodontosis and halitosis without disturbing the balance of indigenous bacterial flora to keep healthy bacterial flora in the oral cavity, or the like. SOLUTION: The obligate anaerobe suppressing agent is effective for specifically suppressing the growth of obligate anaerobes and contains one or more components selected from (1) B-complex vitamins, their derivatives and/or analogous compounds, (2) Gokahi (Acanthopanax gracilistylus), Shushakon (Ardisia crenata), Ryukido (Artemisia anomala) and Seiko (Artemisia apiacea) or their extracts and (3) a pigment selected from cochineal pigment, cacao pigment, gardenia blue pigment, Monascus anka pigment and grape skin pigment as active components. The obligate anaerobe suppressing composition is effective for the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by obligate anaerobes and contains the obligate anaerobe suppressing agent.
