PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight structure for a liquid crystal display device reducing the number of components and man-hours, thinning and miniaturizing the device and heightening brightness. SOLUTION: A laterally protrudent protruding part 36a is provided on an FPC (flexible printed circuit) 36 for driving a liquid crystal display panel. A light emitting element 50 is mounted on the protruding part 36a. For the purpose of compactly containing the FPC 36, the FPC 36 is wrapped around under a frame body 32 to contain the liquid crystal display panel 34 and so on. In this case, the protruding part 36a protrudes on the lateral part of a light transmission plate 46 and the light emitting element 50 is positioned on the lateral part of the light transmission plate.
