A sailboat spinnaker pole control system includes a pole control line supporting an outboard end of the spinnaker pole and running from the pole via a masthead sheave 62, a mast base sheave 64, through a car 50 movable along on a vertical mast track 42 and to which the inboard end of the spinnaker pole is attached, optionally via the mast-fixed and car-mounted sheaves 74 and 76, the sheave 66 mounted on the mast above the car track, and via the turning block near the base of the mast to a line securing cleat. A slug 80 is secured at a fixed position on the line and the car includes a mechanism to secure the slug 80 of the line. In operation, when the slug 80 is secured to the car, movement of the line moves the car and the outboard end of the pole in the same direction.
