PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mass body movement control method capable of simultaneously controlling moving displacement and moving speed of a mass body in an active damping device by maintaining them within a set critical value of the device. SOLUTION: An AC servo motor 22 is driven by a command signal converted from an output signal from a relative displacement sensor 41 detecting input vibration to a building 32 which is damping objective to the command signal. At this time, the displacement and the speed of the mass body 14 to be moved by driving the AC servo motor 22 are fed back to the command signal immediately before they are input to the AC servo motor 22 by a closed minor loop. At the time of this feed-back, individual variable scalar gains 52, 52a are set for each of a plurality of lower-order and higher-order damping objective vibration modes, and each of the variable scalar gains is simultaneously, individually and continuously varied and controlled by a controller 48. Consequently, the command signal is proportionated to the moving displacement of the mass body 14 for the lower-order damping objective vibration mode, while it is proportionated to the moving speed of the mass body 14 for the higher-order damping objective vibration mode.
