PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a cosmetic for the hair, capable of imparting excellent conditioning effects to the hair without causing undesirable effects such as greasy feeling, and also having excellent persistence of the conditioning effects. SOLUTION: This cosmetic contains one or more kinds selected from an amide of an acylcarnitine represented by formula (1) (wherein, R<1> is hydrogen, or an alkyl or alkenyl group having a 1-24C linear or branched chain; R<2> is an alkyl or alkenyl group having a 1-24C linear or branched chain) and salts thereof.
