FILTER CONTROLLER, ITS METHOD, AND VIDEO SIGNAL CODING SYSTEM EMPLOYING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize control of an adaptive filter with high accuracy and a simple configuration in applying filter processing to a video signal so as to compress the bandwidth before encoding the video signal. SOLUTION: A video signal analysis section 3 analyzes the video signal of a source signal source 1 and a filter characteristic control information generating section 5 decides a filter characteristic of a filter section 7 at the result of analysis. A superimposing section 6 superimposes information for controlling the filter characteristic onto lower-order 2 bits in a 10-bit digital video signal whose phase is controlled by a delay section 2. The filter section 7 extracts the superimposed filter characteristic control information and a filter characteristic control section 8 applies filter characteristic control to the filter section 7 on the basis of the extracted information. After that, a video encoding section 9 applies encoding processing to the video signal.
