MPEG DATA RECORDER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder for permitting seamless reproduction with high quality without causing contradiction of overflow or underflow for connection to a VBV (Video Buffer Verifier) buffer in connecting first MPEG image data to second MPEG image data and reproducing the data. SOLUTION: The MPEG data recorder decodes data for a joining period A of the first MPEG image data and then applies re-coding to the data. The re-coding is executed under the control that transition of a VBV buffer occupied value is started from the VBV buffer occupied value at a point (a) and completed up to the VBV buffer occupied value at a point (d). Then the first MPEG image data are reproduced at the point (a) of the first MPEG image data, then the recorded MPEG image data for the joining period A are reproduced, the control is succeeded to the point (d) of the second MPEG image data after that and the second MPEG image data after the point (d) are reproduced.
