PURPOSE: An electrodeless lighting system having a surface-treated resonator is provided to lengthen the useful life of the resonator by improving corrosion and abrasion resistance by implanting nitrogen ion to the surface of the base member of the resonator through the use of plasma. CONSTITUTION: An electrodeless lighting system comprises a case; a high voltage generator(2) fixed within the case, and which boosts power; a magnetron(3) fixed to the opposite side from the high voltage generator, and which generates microwave by the high voltage generated from the high voltage generator; a waveguide(4) arranged around the magnetron, and which guides the microwave generated from the magnetron; a bulb(6) coupled to the top of the waveguide and encapsulated with the material for generating light from the plasma produced from the microwave guided through the waveguide; a resonator(8) surrounding the bulb, and which is formed of a metal mesh for permitting light to exit but cutting off microwave radiation; and a reflector shade(9) fixed at the outer surface of the case, and which reflects the light passed through the resonator. The resonator is surface-treated by implanting nitrogen ion to the surface of the resonator so as to achieve improved corrosion and abrasion resistance.
