PURPOSE: A backlight unit is provided to convert light energy consumed by a lamp housing to electric energy by mounting a photoelectric transformation element in the lamp housing, thereby charging a battery with a voltage reduced from the converted electric energy and increasing the energy efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit includes a light source(31) for generating light, a lamp housing(33) surrounding the light source and reflecting the light generated from the light source, and photoelectric transformation elements such as photodiodes(50) mounted to an inner surface of the lamp housing to face the light source for converting light emitted from the light source to electric energy.
