The automatic light switch for a motor vehicle has a sensor (20) to determine ambient light levels around the vehicle and a control circuit (25) for switching all the light installations (10,12,14,16) as a function of light conditions. The sensor determines mainly the visibility levels in front of the vehicle and the controls are operated by this.
