PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress decrease of density resolution in applying digital conversion to designated density of an image signal so that the designated density has a linear relation to recorded density. SOLUTION: An image recording apparatus includes a signal conversion means 430 for converting a density image signal into a digital image signal on the basis of a designated density according to an inverse of a characteristic resulting from subtracting a component of nonlinear conversion from a recording characteristic of a recording medium, a digital/analog conversion means 440 for converting the digital image signal into an image recording analog signal, a nonlinear conversion means 450 for applying nonlinear conversion to the image recording analog signal so as to compress an area smaller than a corresponding threshold of the image recording analog signal and expand an area over a value corresponding to the threshold, and an image recording means 460 for recording the image recording analog signal subjected to nonlinear conversion by the nonlinear conversion means onto a recording medium. |
