PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless data communication method and system for conserving cellular handset battery power to extend CDMA handset talk time. SOLUTION: The method and system of wireless data communication between a base station and a mobile station employs a mobile receiver and computing algorithms to cause a mobile station transmitter (18) to selectively enter a lower power or idle transmission mode when the mobile station is in a shadow of the base station such that wasted RF and DC power is avoided in poor propagation situations.
