PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing anα-alkyl-substituted compound by which a desired amount of an alkyl group, or the like, to be introduced into the carbon at theα-position can readily be introduced and an amine used can easily be recovered and reutilized. SOLUTION: Theα-alkyl-substituted compound is produced by reacting a compound having a hydrocarbon group, or the like, and any of nitrile group, carboxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an N-substituted carbamoyl group, an N-substituted sulfamoyl group, phosphonyl group and nitro group with a halogenated hydrocarbon, or the like, in the presence of an alkali metal amide and the amine or a crown compound in an anhydrous organic solvent.
