PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a category identification device capable of easily and stably performing the category identification of unknown targets by use of a time series image generated from radar echoes. SOLUTION: In this method, the group identification of an unknown target is performed by successively reading ISAR images of time series generated by processing the radar echo in an ISAR image generation part 11 to a target contour feature extraction part 12 to extract features such as silhouette of the unknown target included in the ISAR images, collating the features extracted in the target contour feature extraction part 12 with the features of a known target preliminarily registered in a target contour dictionary preparation part 13 in a vector space in a first target identification part 14; and further comparatively collating the loaded structure information for the unknown target from a target loaded structure information input part 15 with the loaded structure information for the known target registered in a dictionary prepared by a target loaded structure dictionary preparation part 16 in a second target identification part to retrieve the matched target.
