PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction method for earth retaining, which can omit or reduce temporary materials to the utmost in the construction of a structure whose underground part is deep. SOLUTION: An earth retaining wall is constructed on an outer periphery of ground to be excavated; and a plurality of soil improvement walls are formed in excavation-side ground inside the earth retaining wall, up to a position deeper than an underground excavation bottom surface, so as to be arranged at fixed intervals at a right angle in a buttress wall-like manner. The ground inside the earth retaining wall is excavated up to the excavation bottom surface in such a manner that a clod part is left behind between inner edges of head parts of the soil improvement walls and an inner side surface of the earth retaining wall above the excavation bottom surface; a reaction slab, which is joined to the inner edge of the head part of each of the soil improvement walls, is installed on the excavation bottom surface; and after the strength of the reaction slab manifests itself, the clod part is excavated for removal up to the excavation bottom surface.
