PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method and apparatus by heat development capable of high density and high definition image formation or capable of marked downsizing as compared with a conventional apparatus. SOLUTION: A heat-developable light-sensitive material comprising at least a light-sensitive silver halide, a light-insensitive organic silver salt, a heat developing agent and a binder on a support, wherein the silver iodide content of the light-sensitive silver halide is 5-100 mol%, is exposed by means of a scanning optical system having a light source emitting a laser beam having an emission peak between 350 nm and 450 nm to form a latent image on the heat- developable light-sensitive material, the heat-developable light-sensitive material is developed by heating to about 80-250 deg.C in a heat development section and the heat-developable light-sensitive material having been heat treated in the heat development section is cooled to or below a development stopping temperature while the heat-developable light-sensitive material is transported in a cooling section.
