A suspension mechanism (50), for a motor (40) of a combustion chamber fan (164) in a combustion powered hand tool, provides damping to the motor (40) upon the generation of axial accelerations due to the combustion in the chamber and when the piston (not shown) bottoms out. The suspension mechanism (50) for mounting the combustion chamber fan motor (40) in a combustion powered hand tool includes a flexible rubber web (78) secured between a motor retaining cup (58) and a cylinder head mounting bracket (68). The head-mounting bracket (68) is secured with a resilient spacer members (94) and mounting bushings (106) to a cylinder head (34) of the combustion chamber (not shown). The resilient spacer members (94) have a plurality of tapered peripherally spaced resilient standoffs (100) projecting axially from the base (96). The mounting bushings (106) have a radially projecting lip (108) to matingly engage the resilient spacer member (94), and have sufficient axial length to accommodate vertical travel of the mounting bracket (68) during operation.
