The sliding lid has hinged holder elements (26) sliding in guide rails on either side of the roof opening. The rails are positioned at a relative distance, which varies in longitudinal vehicle direction. A control unit (24) engages on the end of one holder element away from the roof lid, and acts with a second opposite holder element in such a way, that the second element is positioned centrally relative to the roof opening, independent of its location and position. The control unit has drive elements (28,30), which are coupled so that the movement of one element generates a corresponding opposite movement of the second element.
