The invention relates to steel parts, particularly joint outer parts (2) and joint inner parts (3) of homocinetic joints, and to a method for heat-treating metal parts of this type. The heat-treatment involves the following successive steps: nitriding, inductive surface layer hardening, and tempering. Nitride-hardening provides the joint parts with a nitride-containing surface layer (15) and with a diffusion layer (18) located thereunder. The diffusion layer (18) is hardened by a subsequent induction hardening and, as a result, exhibits good supporting properties for supporting the surface layer (15) located thereabove. |
