The device has an arrangement for channel estimation (11) that determines the channel pulse response (12) of the transmission channel using a training sequence known to the receiver, an arrangement (13) for folding the pulse response with a spreading sequence (14) known to the receiver, an arrangement for early/late correlation (17,18) and an arrangement (33,35) for generating a tracking signal (36) depending on the early/late correlations. Independent claims are also included for the following: a multi-user detector, a mobile radio station and a method of locating the optimal sampling time point for a series of received spread coded data in a radio receiver.
