Blow molding a gob (12) in a blow mold (2) of a blow molding station (1) of a glass molding machine comprises holding the gob using a closed mold and transporting into the blow molding station; closing mold halves (3, 4) of the mold and contacting with the mouth of the gob; opening the tool and removing; introducing compressed air through a blowing head (13) into the inside of the gob and blow molding the gob to form a finished glass container; removing the blowing head; and opening the mold halves and removing the glass container. Before the mold halves are closed in the second step, a block structure (18) is axially moved into a working position.
