ALARM SYSTEM

An alarm system comprising a control panel (50) connected to sounding devices (10) for storing and reproducing messages according to an alarm input (e.g. output from heat sensor). The messages (usually pre-recorded spoken messages) are downloaded to memories (12) in the sounding devices (10) by message controller (55) from a local message store (70), when initially setting up the alarm system and when a sounding device (10) needs to reproduce a message not currently stored in its memory (12). This downloading of messages to the sounding devices (10) gives the alarm system flexibility and reduces the necessary size of each sounding device's internal memory. The sounding devices may simultaneously reproduce a first message whilst having a second message downloaded thereto.
