Molding base material contains a portion of quartz sand present in a beta -tridymite modification with the remainder being quartz sand in a lower modification stage. An Independent claim is also included for a molding material for mold parts of casting molds containing the molding base material mixed with a binder. Preferred Features: The amount of the tridymite present is at least 50 %. The binder consists of water glass or an artificial resin.
