The invention relates to an applicator for applying a coating to a surface, in addition to a method for applying a coating to a surface. According to the invention, the applicator is substantially rod-shaped and comprises exit openings (3) at one end for substances that can preferably be supplied by means of the rod. Electromagnetic radiation in the visible or UV spectrum is fed to the exit openings (3) by means of optical fibres, said radiation being directed onto the emergent substances by a prism (6). According to the inventive method, substances are sprayed onto the surface and photopolymerized.
