Production of hardened metallic component comprises: heating a plate or a pre-molded component in a heating device to an austenitizing temperature; and feeding to a hardening process via a transport path. During transportation, partial regions of a first type of the plate or pre-molded component are quenched from a pre-determined cooling starting temperature lying above psi - alpha conversion temperature. Quenching is stopped when a prescribed cooling stopping temperature is reached which lies above the martensite starting temperature and before conversion into ferrite and/or perlite occurs or after only after a low conversion into ferrite and/or perlite has taken place. Preferred Features: The regions of the first type are additionally subjected to heat to hold the component in the austenite region. The regions of the first type are cooled using air. The hardening process is carried out in a cooled deforming tool. The plate or pre-molded component is made from a steel alloy containing (in wt.%) 0.18-0.3 carbon (C), 0.1-0.7 silicon (Si), 1.0-2.50 manganese (Mn), maximum 0.025 phosphorus (P), 0.1-0.8 chromium (Cr), 0.1-0.5 molybdenum (Mo), maximum 0.01 sulfur (S), 0.02-0.05 titanium (Ti), 0.002-0.005 boron (B), 0.01-0.06 aluminum (Al) and a balance of iron (Fe).
|
