The locking device for the wheel bolts (2) of heavy motor vehicles is installed on the end of the threaded section of the bolt and has a locking element (6) pressed against the wheel nut (3). The wheel bolt has an end section extending beyond its standard length and has a left hand thread with a smaller diameter than the rest of the thread. The locking element which is in the form of a locknut is screwed onto the left hand thread.
