An electromagnetic field is divided into three or more partial fields. These extend toward and face each other. They are brought together, such that they meet and interpenetrate in a limited region of the open space. In this limited region, the field strength is locally-increased. It reaches a level causing plasma (7) ignition and development, under ambient conditions of pressure and gas composition. An Independent claim is included for apparatus used.
