The present invention provides a system and method for disseminating drug information. In architecture, the system includes a server device (11) containing original drug information. The server device further comprises an update mechanism that creates update drug data for addition to the original drug information (12), and a transmit mechanism (14) that transmits the update drug data to the remote device (16A-C) upon receiving a request from a remote device for the update drug data. The present invention can also be viewed as a method for disseminating drug information. The method operates by (1) creating update drug data for addition to original drug information; (2) waiting for the remote device to request update drug data; and (3) transmitting the update drug data to the remote device.
