The roller chain (1) comprises link plates (6,7) which are arranged sideways in pairs. The link plates are connected by chain pins (3) and chain sleeves (4) and have gaps between them. The gaps are covered by an elastic cover band (8) which is fitted along the length of the chain. The cover band is fitted on the outer side of the chain, and has tooth-type protrusions (9) which engage into the gaps.
