The multiple adapter (1) includes sockets at two different levels (3,4 and 5,6,7). The higher sockets alternate with the normal level sockets in order to accommodate a large number of outlet plugs within a limited space. The higher sockets accept transformer plugs. The multiple adapter (1) is connected to the mains supply by a cable (2). It includes sockets (3,4) which are at a normal height above the base, and further sockets (5,6,7) which are higher than the others. The higher sockets alternate with the normal level sockets in order to accommodate a large number of outlet plugs within a limited space. It is also possible to vary the angle of the different sockets, in order to provide room for them within a confined space. The higher sockets may readily accept transformer plugs, in which a transformer is built directly on to the plug for a low voltage application. In a variant, the higher sockets may be provided by small plug-in adaptors, fitting into some of the sockets within a bank of standard sockets at a common low level.
