PURPOSE: A method for coding picture B in an H.26 L is provided to reduce encoding time of the picture B as short as picture P, and improve picture quality and decrease bit rate. CONSTITUTION: Optimum intra mode and an SAD(Sum of Absolute Difference) are obtained in 4 x 4 and 16 x 16 intra modes(S1). An SAD of a forward mode related to block types of 16 x 16, 16 x 8, 8 x 16, 8 x 8, is obtained(S2). An SAD of a backward mode related to block types of 16 x 16, 16 x 8, 8 x 16, 8 x 8, is obtained(S3). An SAD of a bidirectional mode is obtained by using a motion vector obtained from the forward and backward modes(S4). An SAD of a direct mode is obtained(S5). All the obtained SADs are compared with each other for deciding the mode having the minimum SAD as a prediction mode(S6). A differential coding is executed by using the decided prediction mode(S7). |
