Seat arrangement in an automotive vehicle

The system comprises a rear bench seat with two-part backrest, or two adjacent seats with backrests. One backrest at least hinges in the lengthwise direction of the vehicle, and is lockable in the roughly vertical position to the adjacent bodywork sidewall. Components working together on the sidewall (3) and backrest (8,9) consist of a spring-loaded sliding wedge (12) and a bolt (18) with a hemispherical-head (19). These are in frictional contact with each other in the working position. The wedge can be on the backrest, its ramp face being inclined to the vehicle lengthwise axis and converging towards it in the rearwards direction. It can work in a track running in the vehicle lengthwise direction with the backrest in the working position, being pre-loaded by a compression spring supported from the backrest.
